Saturday Beer Tasting
Our beer tastings tend to be a bit more relaxed and low key than our wine tastings (maybe because they’re 1-4 on Saturday afternoon) but we take them just as seriously. Like our wine tastings, we generally offer four beverages to sample, but unlike our wine tastings they can be all over the beer map. Light, dark, caramelly, roasty, strong, weak, sessionable, palate-wrecking, sweet-malty, bitter-hoppy; beer’s flavor palette is even broader and can be far more aggressive than wine’s, so creating a tasting can be a little tricky.
We almost always go from light to dark, weak to strong, lightly to aggressively bittered, and dry to sweet. We are careful of our order of selections, because choosing the wrong order could mean less enjoyment for you. We know that if we put a 6% abv 70 IBU India Pale Ale before a 9% 12 IBU Saison and you lose all the delicate fruity yeast aromas that make the Saison enjoyable. However, we take care of all the complexity so you can sit back, try some new beers (or maybe an old favorite) and hopefully learn something in the process. We aim to always sample different beers every week, and while we only have about 300 different bottles in the shop at any given time, our stock rotates through the literally thousands of beer available to us. We’re lucky enough to live at a time when there are more beer options than any other point in human history, and we do our best to take full advantage of the cornucopia of flavor. Whether you’re just starting to learn about the world of beer, or you’ve got every book Michael Jackson ever wrote, we think you’ll be satisfied by our tastings.
